Scientists from The Australian Countrywide College (ANU) and abroad have uncovered the oldest colors in the geological history, 1.1 billion-yr-previous dazzling pink pigments extracted from rocks deep beneath the Sahara desert in Africa.

Dr Nur Gueneli from ANU reported the pigments taken from maritime black shales of the Taoudeni Basin in Mauritania, West Africa, ended up additional than half a billion a long time more mature than preceding pigment discoveries. Dr Gueneli learned the molecules as section of her PhD research.
